5th Anniversary and Grand Opening Party - 10/28/06

View all the photosWe celebrated T. Reid's 5th Anniversary and Grand Opening of our new location in Dilworth on Saturday, October 28. Approximately 300 people joined in on the fun that began with a live broadcast with Sheri Lynch and Ramona Holloway from 107.9 The Link. It was the first time Sheri and Ramona had done a remote broadcast without their co-hosts, Bob Lacey and Matt Harris. Yeah for the girls! They gave away spa packages and goodie bags to lucky visitors at T. Reid that day. Tours of our newly renovated home were given by T. Reid staff.

Later that afternoon, T. Reid hosted a Client Appreciation Party for our clients and friends, with free barbeque provided by RO's Barbeque.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by to celebrate!

I Dealt Bad Hair a Death Blow

By Karen Cimino

...Both Shine Salon owner Amy Swaney and Tonya Reid, owner of T. Reid and Company, each recommended a thermal protectant be used before using a flat iron. It protects the hair, but also helps fill in breaks in the hair shaft. "It's like hair spackle," Reid said. "Anywhere the hair shaft is compromised you spread that on and it helps straighten and improve the texture of the hair...."

...Another mistake is not thinking of the blow-dryer as a styling tool, said Tonya Reid, the owner of T. Reid and Company on East Boulevard in Dilworth. "People use the blow dryer to dry their hair," Reid said. "They don't realize they can use it to style their hair." She said they also make the mistake of getting a new hairdo and then styling it the same way they always have....

Where To Find Help

Move to Dilworth opens up expansion options for salon

T. Reid and Company has traded in Myers Park for Dilworth.

Tonya Reid, who owns the five-year-old salon and spa, says she has had her eye on East Boulevard for quite some time. "My dream has always been to have an old Dilworth home with a wrap-around porch," she says. "It gives me goose bumps."

The salon's new home, 429 East Blvd., measures 4,200 square feet, a slight increase form its former location at 117 Middleton Drive.

Reid's new building will allow her to add as many as 14 hair stylists, up from the seven she can now employ. It also includes two spa rooms and a room for two manicurists.

"I've been a hairdresser for 16 years, and I started my career on East Boulevard at Norman Russell," Reid says. "It's really cool because I am going home again."

She declines to say how much she is investing in the new building, where the salon opened on Tuesday.

Radio personalities Sheri Lynch and Romona Holloway form 107.9 The Link will broadcast live form the new salon and spa on Saturday.

It's the first time Sheri and Ramona have done a live broadcast withour their male counterparts, Bob Lacey and Matt Harris.

'Passion for Fashion'

Better elements of 70s-insprired fashion ruled during Charlotte magazine's "Passion for Fashion" show on Aug. 18 at the Levine Museum of the New South. The event was inspired by the "Purses, Platforms & Power" exhibit, on display through Jan. 16, that examines how women changed the city in the '70s.

The first set of models wore vintage pieces, including a long-sleeved pink/white mini-dress with knee-high white boots and an orange jumpsuit. Other models, including Moria Quinn of Center City Partners and Ruth Samuelson, former Mecklenburg County commissioner, strutted in non-vintage outfits. The hair and makeup by T. Reid and Company hit just the right note--enhancing without being overly dramatic.

Fashion Show--Go Retro at upcoming event

"You've come a long way baby" is no longer just a catchy slogan--for today's working women, it's an understatement.

The Levine Museum of the New South's "Purses, Platforms & Power: Women Changing Charlotte in the 70s" exhibit is the inspiration behind "Passion for Fashion: A 70s Inspired Fashion Show" Thursday at the museum, 200 E. Seventh St.

The show begins at 6:30 p.m. Tickets: $20 (includes show, reception and exhibits); VIP tickets: $50 (show, reception, exhibit and pre-show reception, at 5:30 p.m. and premium seating). This show will feature "powerful" models including Moira Quinn, Center City Partners vice president; India Lucas, WB Cable 12 personality; and ruth Samuelson, former Mecklenburg County Commissioner.

T. Reid and Company salon/spa will give the models '70s hair and makeup. Sponsors include Charlotte Magazine, Allen Tate Realtors, La-tea-da's and The Blue Thistle.

Girlfriend Glamour

If you're desperately seeking an outing for your girlfriends, T. Reid & Company can help. The salon/spa is now offering Desperate Housewives Spa Parties. The two-and-a-half-hour parties are designed for groups of five to coincide with the five characters on the TV show; but other group sizes can be accommodated.

"I actually had a client ask me about a year ago if I could put something together for a girls' night out," says owner Tonya Reid. "She said, "I'm tired of readin books and painting pottery."

Reid and her staff designed a spa outing featuring blueberry smoothie peels (pregnant women can have these, by the way), eyebrow shapings, paraffin hand treatments (heaven for hands), scalp massages, and touch-up makeup lessons. "We picked services that are more social," explains Reid.

During the parties, women, desperate or not, enjoy chatting with friends, answering trivia questions about the show, eating catered food fro Billy Reid's, and exploring goodie bags from the salon. Reid welcomes partygoers to bring their own champagne or wine.

Parties are offered on Tuesday mornings and Thursday evenings a couple of times a month. "I wanted to make it so you've got the whole spa to yourself," says Reid. "We want it to be where everyone can be together and have fun."
